Solving The Problem

  • Product: My product has to do with Publix subs, specifically the online ordering and pick up method used by Publix.
  • Some of you have probably ordered a sub from Publix online and then proceeded to go to the store pick it up and leave. What some of you probably don't know is that it is very easy for a random person to walk in to a Publix read the ingredients on the sub and take it without anyone batting an eye. This happens because once the sub is made it is put into a case and just left there. I want to create a product that works almost as a safe for the subs.
    • My proposed product is a large machine that has multiple drawers and a touch screen. The system I am proposing works like this. When you order your sub you will now be asked to produce a custom four digit pin and when you go to the store the large case which will work both as a warmer or cooler to keep the subs a certain temperature. When you get there you will put in the four digit code you created and one of the drawers within the machine will open with your sub in it and you then take your sub and leave. This could not only work for Publix but for anything that uses online ordering.
  • I think restaurants and stores would like this product because it guarantees their customers food will arrive to the correct person and they will not have to waste materials and time remaking orders because someone else has run off with theirs. I truly believe this product has a very realistic application in today's world where people are constantly ordering things online.

  1. Hi Joseph,
I really like your proposed idea to reduce the amount of stolen subs, whether intentional or not. I feel like that machine would be a great idea, but I feel like it would be tough to persuade Publix to absorb those up-front costs to implement them across all their stores. I think it is a great idea though that can be applied across all food service businesses with online ordering as an option. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Hey Joseph,
I really like this idea, especially after being a recipient of such an atrocity. Your idea is also really intricate and well thought out, it's honestly something that should not just be integrated at Publix, but also Starbucks and other franchises that provide online ordering to improve the decrease customer traffic as a whole. I do honestly question though: wouldn't it be just easier if the workers at Publix kept your sub inaccessible to pickup until they get a name for the order?
